Nothing affects a smile more than stained or discoloured teeth, yet it is a relatively easy problem to fix, with the results being almost instantly visible. The natural white colour of our teeth can get discoloured for a variety of reasons; tea and coffee drinking, smoking and certain foods being the most common causes. Besides these obvious causes, unfortunately some people are just more prone to staining than others and over time their teeth start to darken or even yellow.
Not all staining requires tooth-whitening procedures; many superficial stains can be removed by our hygienist with a simple scale and polish. However left untreated, some stains can work their way into the structure of the tooth and will require something more than just a professional cleaning. In these cases a tooth whitening procedure may be needed. Dr. Miller and his team use a controlled bleaching process. It is a totally painless procedure with instant results; and in many cases once the appropriate bleaching trays have been created for your teeth, you will be able to maintain the ‘sparkle’ at home.
Staining caused by genetic factors or the prolonged use of certain antibiotics resulting in greyish looking teeth with the stain penetrating all the way through the tooth may require veneers or some form of cosmetic bonding in order to achieve the best result.
Dr. Miller will be able to advise you of the most appropriate form of tooth whitening to guarantee a noticeably more vibrant smile.
